The way my story begins is interesting. While in college (many years ago), one of my professors required us to build a Website for his Marketing Research class. Though this project was completely unrelated to the course curriculum, it was required and a hefty portion of our grade. Keep in mind, this was before “You’ve got mail” and sites like Prodigy were still popular. Email was scarce and cell phones were just starting to weigh less than 5 lbs.

Alas, I begrudgingly succumbed to his request and built a simple site using Microsoft Front Page, which in the Web world, is like using chisel when you need a jackhammer. The site was a huge success and I received stellar marks and accolades. Before long, I was being paid by other students to build their Websites (yes-yes, I feel awful about it now) and that was the truly the beginning of my Web career. I would like to pay tribute to Dr. Karl Mann, who has since passed, for giving me the tools to be a successful businessperson and confident Graphic/Web Designer.

As time went on, I picked up projects here and there, charging only the amount of money it would take to purchase the software I needed to complete the job. I would take on a project, teach myself the software application, and spend WAY too much time creating the final piece as I was learning while building.

Today, all of that time has paid off and I’m now fully versed in:

As a designer of 10 plus years, it is my goal to create beautiful, yet functional concepts. My design tends to focus on creating balance and harmony between shapes, colors, and content. Keeping abreast of current trends and software development is crucial to keeping my clients relevant in the market place.

I started my career in print design, creating CD labels, booklets, brochures for a large printing company in the Nashville area. As I gained more experience, I began to doing freelance for a variety of clients, including Drexel Heritage Furniture and HealthStream. Soon, I was working on complete branding projects and had developed relationships with several local agencies doing contract work.

During my professional career, I have created work for healthcare companies, non-profits, networking firms, manufacturing, and many others. I have also been part of several key marketing teams picking up additional experience in ad placement, direct mail, HTML email campaigns, as well as complete trade show coverage from booth design to giveaway materials.

In 2006, a friend and I started EyeCandy Creative. I brought print design to the table, while my partner, Patrick, had more web experience. EyeCandy was able to fill a small niche for larger companies looking to get out from under that “agency process” which can be expensive, and not very flexible, while smaller companies preferred the personal attention we provided. EyeCandy has prided itself on meeting both our large and small clients needs.

As the our client list has grown, and the digital world has continued to change, we have both evolved into fully capable web and print designers. I feel this is where our strengths begin to show. As the line between print and web grows more narrow, it is even more important to work with someone that understands both worlds. This will allow for maximum consistency and value, and in turn, greater customer confidence for our clients.

On a personal note, I have a wonderful wife and 3 amazing kids that inspire me daily. Music gets me through most days. I enjoy playing and watching sports, especially rugby. I try to go camping/backpacking at least 3 times a year, and it is a sin if you don’t get to the beach once a summer. My favorite movies include Pulp Fiction and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. And lastly, I have a crazy obsession with Roman history.
